Seven Habits of Highly Effective Christians

by Steve Badger

  1. Highly Effective Christians habitually spend "quality time" with God (alone in Bible study and reflection, two-way prayer, and meditation, and corporately in worship) empowering them to live a life of faith. (Ps 1; Ps 91)
  2. Highly Effective Christians habitually work at developing personal relationships with both Christians and nonchristians (handling conflicts & solving problems), because they realize that love and forgiveness are what you do and not just what you feel or say. (1 Cor 13:13; 1 Jn 1:7-11; 3:16-18)
  3. Highly Effective Christians habitually manage their time, invest their money, and structure their values according to Kingdom principles instead of the World's. (Mt 5-7)
  4. Highly Effective Christians habitually seek to be refilled with the Holy Spirit, allowing Him to always produce His fruit and manifest His gifts. (Gal 5:22; Eph 5:18)
  5. Highly Effective Christians habitually look at problems and blessings from an eternal (vs. temporal) and spiritual (vs. human) perspective. (1 Cor 2:14)
  6. Highly Effective Christians have developed the habit of periodically re-prioritizing and re-ordering their lives so that they follow and obey the Good Shepherd. (Ps 23; Mt 6:33; Jn 10:3-5,27; 2 Co 13:5-6)
  7. Highly Effective Christians are habitually faithful to their commitments--to the Lord, to the Church, to family and friends, to employers and/or employees--regardless of the personal cost. (1 Cor 10:31; Heb 10:25; Rev 2:10-11)

You cannot become a Christian by developing these habits. But Christians who possess these habits are effective in affecting the world for Christ Jesus.

2 Peter 1:8 For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. (NIV)

2 Thesssalonians 1:11 With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may count you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may fulfill every good purpose of yours and every act prompted by your faith. (NIV)

2 Corinthians 13:5-6 Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you--unless, of course, you fail the test? And I trust that you will discover that we have not failed the test. (NIV)
