Ruth’s Apple Squares

 Sift together:
bullet 3 3/4 cups flour
bullet 1 1/2 Tbls sugar
bullet 1 1/2 tsp salt
bullet Cut in 1 1/2 cups shortening.
bullet Break 2 eggs in cup and add milk to make 1 cup. 
bullet Combine liquid and dry ingredients.
Roll half of the dough to fit a 17x11 cookie sheet. 
Sprinkle with 2 cups crushed corn flakes. 
Peel and slice 2 quarts apples (like for pie). 
Mix 1 cup sugar and 1 1/2 tsps cinnamon. 
Sprinkle cinnamon-sugar over apples.
Roll rest of dough and put on top of apples. 
Bake at 350ºF for 1 hour.  Remove pan from oven.
Mix 1 cup confectioners sugar with 3-4 tsps of water 
and dribble it over the top of the apple squares.
Allow to cool and cut into squares.
